Is solar worth it in Torremolinos?
Torremolinos is a mass-market resort town that never emptied out: around 71,329 people live here permanently, next door to Fuengirola and Benalmádena, and most of the housing is lived in year-round rather than let to holidaymakers. Why Torremolinos is a good fit for solar
Torremolinos is dense, low-rise-to-mid-rise and largely built out, so most of what we install here goes onto apartment terraces, community roofs and the townhouses behind the seafront in Los Álamos, El Calvario, La Carihuela and Montemar. About 21.3% of residents are foreign nationals — a lower share than in neighbouring Fuengirola, so the customer here is more often a Spanish or long-settled resident household running air conditioning through a long, hot summer. Average net income per person is around €13,845, which puts a 4–6 kW system inside reach without financing for many households. The town's low elevation and open southern exposure to the sea give it a clean solar horizon; PVGIS puts the optimal tilt at 33°. What does a solar installation cost in Torremolinos?
Torremolinos is apartment country, and that sets the size of most systems: a 4–6 kW array is the normal residential job here, which comes to roughly €3,700–€5,400 fully installed — panels, inverter, mounting, labour, the legalisation and IVA in one fixed price. Flat terrace roofs in Montemar and along Avenida Carlota Alessandri take a ballasted frame, which is quick and needs no drilling; the older pitched-tile townhouses in El Calvario and the Casco need scaffolding and a little more labour. We have not yet read Torremolinos's own IBI and ICIO ordenanzas fiscales for a solar clause, so we will not state a municipal rate here until we have — several towns along this coast turned out to have no solar bonification at all despite what local press had reported, and we would rather say nothing than repeat an unverified figure. One thing we can confirm: Andalucía has no regional IRPF income-tax deduction for solar. We read the Agencia Tributaria's full list of Andalusian autonomic deductions and none of them covers renewables or self-consumption, so treat any claim of an "Andalusian solar deduction" with suspicion. What does apply nationally is the IRPF energy-efficiency deduction of 20–60%, which turns on a measured improvement evidenced by energy performance certificates before and after the works, not simply on having installed panels.
